Desired Learning Outcomes
Maitri School serves students with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities from ages 7 to 18.
Over 12 years, students’ progress through three key programmes (Junior, Middle and Senior), each thoughtfully designed to prepare them for the next stage of development and ultimately, their desired post-school pathway. Learning experiences are curated to maximise potential and equip students to live better, learn continuously, and contribute meaningfully.
Junior Programme (7 – 10 years old)
The focus of the Junior Programme is on building strong foundations.
Students develop essential communication skills, including the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools, to express their needs effectively. They are taught emotional regulation and personalised coping strategies to help them manage their feelings and behaviours. A well-regulated state supports readiness to learn and promotes positive outcomes.
Middle Programme (11 – 14 years old)
The Middle Programme focuses on engagement, motivation and self-determination.
Students are guided to discover their interests and strengths, building confidence and ownership of their learning. Through community exploration and co-curricular programmes, they gain broader exposure and meaningful experiences that enhance their quality of life.
From age 13, the school begins structured conversations with families and students regarding post-school pathways. We work closely with families to align aspirations with each student’s strengths, interests and readiness for transition.
Senior Programme (15 – 18 years old)
The Senior Programme provides intentional and targeted preparation for post-school life.
Students are offered structured opportunities to participate in volunteer work and job experiences. Functional and vocational skills are reinforced through authentic contexts such as field trips, learning journeys and on-the-job training.
These experiences strengthen independence, workplace readiness and community integration, preparing students for a smooth and purposeful transition beyond school.
