2025 Chinese New Year Celebration

Roaring into the Lunar New Year at Maitri School!

Maitri School celebrated Chinese New Year (CNY) with a joyful and vibrant event! Our students enjoyed a variety of engaging activities, from classroom fun and delicious food to a dazzling performance, a festive fashion show, and even an exciting orange peeling competition!

The celebrations began a week early as students explored the traditions of Chinese New Year in the classroom. Teachers used visual supports and hands-on experiences to ensure all activities were accessible and engaging for students. They learned about the “When, Who, and What” of CNY – what to eat, wear, and do!

One highlight for many was the delicious Chinese New Year goodies. Students experienced a sensory feast with a variety of textures and tastes, from sweet and crumbly pineapple tarts to crunchy prawn rolls, crispy love letters with a hint of coconut, and the light and fluffy kueh bahulu.

The festive spirit filled the school during a CNY classroom decoration competition. Students designed beautiful CNY scrolls, tracing auspicious characters like “Ji” (吉) and “Fu” (福), transforming the school into a vibrant and cheerful space.

On the eve of Chinese New Year, the excitement reached its peak! The day began with a captivating lion dance performance by our talented students.

Students then tested their knowledge in a fun Q&A session about the festival.

This followed by the prize presentation for the Best Classroom Decoration for each level.

The Fashion Show Competition was a true spectacle, with one student from each class proudly showcasing their festive outfits.

Another highlight was the Orange Peeling Competition, where students and their teachers teamed up to see who could peel oranges the fastest!

The celebration concluded with more delicious food in the classrooms and a fun-filled photo session at our popular photobooths.

A special thank you to Trailblazer – Chan Chiew Ping Fund for the kind donation of mandarin oranges and goodie bags and also to all our staff who made this Chinese New Year celebration so memorable for our students!
