On 9 May, Maitri School came alive with colour, joy, and reflection as we celebrated Vesak Day, a special occasion honouring the birth of the Buddha. The day was filled with meaningful activities, joyful moments, and hands-on learning experiences that helped our students connect deeply with the values of compassion and kindness.
Lotus Pond Booth
In the lead-up to Vesak Day, students across classes created beautiful artwork inspired by acts of kindness and good deeds. During the event, they proudly added their creations to the pond displays. These vibrant visuals blossomed with colour and love, symbolising how small acts of goodness can ripple outward, just like the unfolding petals of a lotus.
Kind Words & Blessings Booth
At this booth, students were invited to pause and reflect on the people who have supported and guided them. They expressed their appreciation through kind words and heartfelt messages, some written, others carefully traced, dedicated to those who matter most. It was truly touching to see so many messages of gratitude, with notes lovingly written to teachers, friends, and family members.
Vesak Day Photo Booth
What’s a celebration without some fun photos? The Vesak Day Photo Booth quickly became a laughter-filled hotspot as students picked out playful props, flashed big smiles, and struck their best poses with their friends and teachers alike.
It was a joyful space where memories were captured, friendships were celebrated, and the spirit of Vesak shone brightly in every snapshot.
Electronic Bathing of Buddha
This year’s showstopper was the Electronic Bathing of Buddha booth, a modern twist on the traditional ritual of pouring water over Buddha statues. Using our interactive TV setup, students who opted to participate, were able to “bathe” the Buddha by using the virtual ladle. The experience was hands-on, engaging and filled with smiles. Students gained a deeper understanding of the ritual’s significance in a fun and meaningful way. The excitement was contagious.
Wrapping Up with Smiles
From art to appreciation, reflection to fun, the Vesak Day celebration was a beautiful blend of cultural learning and joyful experiences. The entire school community, students and staff alike, came together, to make the day truly special. More than just a celebration, it was a heartfelt expression of the values we cherish : kindness and respect.
