Our school recently commemorated Vesak Day on 29 May with a series of enriching and meaningful activities. Students had the opportunity to reflect on how they can contribute to a more caring and supportive school environment, while promoting values such as compassion, mindfulness, and gratitude: in line of this year’s Vesak Day’s theme of Loving-Kindness.
Students participated in meaningful kindness activities that allowed them to reflect on and celebrate positive actions:
“Good Deed Flower” craft activity
Students wrote on paper flowers cut-outs the acts of kindness that they had performed, and placed the cut-outs into a class “flowerpot” display, creating a vibrant visual reminder of the many good deeds carried out by each class.

“Lotus Candle” card-writing
Students wrote kind words and messages of appreciation on lotus candle cards, hung on the wall, filling the space with uplifting messages and encouraging a culture of positivity and encouragement within the school.

Recycled toy making for pets
Our students also engaged in a meaningful activity aligned with the theme of caring for animals. Using recycled materials, they creatively designed and made toys for dogs and cats such as snuffle mats, rattle dog toys or Stuffed Treats Tube. This activity not only encouraged creativity and environmental awareness but also reinforced the importance of kindness towards animals.

Assembly Talk on Kindness to Animals
The assembly talk event was hosted by The Good Earth School, where students learned about the importance of caring for animals, showing gratitude, and doing good for our wildlife. The session set the tone for a day centred on personal growth and positive actions.

Silkie Chicken guided interaction booth
The Good Earth School also collaborated for a memorable guided interaction session with silkie chickens. Under careful supervision, our students learned how to gently handle and care for the animals. This hands-on experience allowed students to put the values they had learned into practice. They demonstrated patience, responsibility, and kindness while interacting with the chickens, ensuring they were always calm and comfortable. The session also helped students develop empathy by encouraging them to be mindful of the needs and feelings of living creatures.

The Vesak Day event was a truly meaningful and enriching experience for our entire school community – students had the opportunity to experience kindness not just as an idea, but as something they could actively practise. It was heartwarming to see students express care, empathy, and thoughtfulness in so many ways and we hope that the values reflected throughout the day will stay with our students, guiding them to continue spreading kindness and positivity in their daily lives.
