At Maitri School, learning is joyful, meaningful, and rooted in real-life experiences. During our April field trip, our M1-3 and M1-4 students had a fun-filled day packed with hands-on activities that not only brought smiles to their faces but also supported their learning and development in purposeful ways.
The day kicked off with a practical life skills activity: learning how to use an umbrella! Our students started off this activity in the classroom, where they explored and practiced opening the umbrella, holding it, and to understand why and when we need to use it. Before they head out of classrooms, light rain came! It was indeed the perfect real-life opportunity to apply what they had just learned.

With umbrellas in hand, students stepped outdoors and quickly understood the importance of keeping their umbrellas over their heads to stay dry. With wide eyes and big smiles, students proudly kept their umbrellas over their heads to stay dry, turning the lesson into a moment of confidence and independence. It was a wonderful moment of discovery, independence, and connection to the world around them.

Next, students put on their chef’s hat for a burger-making session! Using buns, patties, and cheese, they learned to follow instructions and practised sequencing and fine motor skills by assembling their own burgers and engaging in their senses. The best part? Enjoying the tasty reward of their hard work!

To round off the day, students headed out for a much-anticipated water play session, this time with a twist! Armed with water guns of various sizes, they aimed at colourful balls balanced on a bench, practising their hand-eye coordination, fine motor control, and listening skills as they aimed for the correct colours. Giggles and cheers filled the air as students took turns and celebrated each splashy success.

Soaked and smiling, they ended the session by independently practising their changing routine – drying off and changing into fresh clothes to get ready to go home. This not only reinforced self-help skills but also encouraged responsibility and independence.

Moments like these remind us that learning is everywhere – rain or shine, indoors or outdoors. We are proud of our M1-3 and M1-4 students for their enthusiasm, growth, and joyful spirit of learning!
